A dream encounter
Highly unlikely coincidences and bewildering one-in-a-million chances often led me to Michael. Perhaps the most amazing of these occurred in February 2007.
I was in Las Vegas for a few days and knew that Michael was out on the Strip somewhere, but I had no idea where. He had been spotted at the Weng Lei restaurant at the Wynn the previous weekend so I decided to start there. I dropped off my car and headed down one corridor after another, sometimes doubling back on myself – it was quite the maize.
Finally I came to the Weng Lei restaurant but saw no sign of him. Oh well. There were plenty more places to try. I opened a side door to step outside and there, all alone walking towards me, was Michael, wearing a sparkly black jacket and looking like he’d just walked off a movie set. My first thought was, “Oh no. I thought I was awake but I’m dreaming. This is a just a dream.”
It was the most surreal moment of my life – yes, even more surreal than watching Smooth Criminal with him at Neverland. I had never before met him alone or even seen him alone in public. (Actually there was a security guard with him but he was still at the car and wouldn’t appear for another few moments.)
There were a few people standing by the end of the path. They said, "Hi Michael!" And he responded, "Hi!" Then I said in a breathless voice, "Hiiii!" He glanced up, did a double take and said, “OOOOOOoooooooh hiiiiiiiiiiiiii!”, reached out and gave me a huge hug.
We chatted for a while and I was super gushy, telling him how much I’d missed him and how amazing he looked. I hadn’t talked to him properly since the trial – I’d met him a few times at the Hempel hotel in London the previous November but only very briefly – and was overjoyed to see him looking happy and healthy. He held my hand, was very sweet and loving and as always, made me feel like a princess in a fairy tale ;-).
